Made in Chattanooga: Why Small-Batch Still Matters

Made in Chattanooga: Why Small-Batch Still Matters

There’s a difference between putting “local” on a label and actually being local.

At Local Beard, Chattanooga isn’t just part of our name. It’s where we make the stuff.

Behind every bottle of beard oil, jar of butter and tin of balm is a story that started long before Local Beard had a name.

It Started With Better Beard Care

Back in 2017, Matt started Chattanooga Beard with a simple idea: make better beard products.

He began developing beard oils and balms and building a local following. In 2022, Matt sold Chattanooga Beard to focus on Chapel Barber, but the experience and recipes he had developed would eventually become part of something new.

Meanwhile, another Chattanooga beard guy was building something of his own.

Then Came the Butter

In 2023, Tyler started Lucky Six Beard Company with a focus on beard butter and creating a better way to moisturize and condition a beard.

What started small grew into products being carried at Elder’s Ace Hardware and local barber shops.

Two local beard brands. Two different areas of expertise.

They just hadn't come together yet.

Four Guys. One Table. One Idea.

Then Jeff and Terry entered the picture.

Eventually, Matt, Tyler, Jeff and Terry sat down together at a local restaurant.

That conversation became the beginning of Local Beard.

They combined what they had learned, started developing new ideas and created six new scents across oils, balms and butters. When customers began asking for other ways to enjoy those scents, candles joined the lineup too.

But while the product line grew, one thing didn't change:

They were still making it here.

This Is What Small Batch Looks Like

Small batch can sound like another marketing phrase.

Around here, it's much more literal.

It looks like stainless-steel tables, mixing bowls and rows of bottles and jars waiting to be filled.

It looks like measuring, mixing, pouring, filling and packing.

It looks like the people behind the brand rolling up their sleeves and making the products themselves.

That's what you're seeing in these photos.

This isn't a stock photo of what we want Local Beard to look like.

This is Local Beard.

Right here in Chattanooga.

Why Small Batch Still Matters

For us, small batch isn't about trying to sound fancy.

It's about staying connected to what we're making and to the people using it.

When you're involved in the process from beginning to end, you know what's going into the product. You know why you're making it. And when someone stops by our booth at an event and tells us what they love—or what they'd like us to make next—we're there to hear it.

Some of the best ideas don't start in a boardroom.

Sometimes they start across a table, at a market, in a barber shop or in a conversation with a customer.

That's part of what being local means to us.

Still Local. Still Growing.

Local Beard has grown beyond those original oils, butters and balms.

We've added new scents, products, collaborations and even new ways to take care of more than your beard.

But growing doesn't mean we have to lose what made Local Beard different in the first place.

We're still rooted in Chattanooga.

We're still hands-on.

We're still making products in small batches.

And there are still real people behind every jar and bottle that leaves our shop.

Made local. Made small batch. Made by people who care about what goes in the jar.

That's Local Beard.
